Rare late WW2 or Korean War era US Navy life raft knife marked D-A on ricasso. Little is known about the exact manufacture date. This type is illustrated on p 191 of COLLECTION OF U. MILITARY KNIVES book published by M.

This one was made by "DA" - ricasso is simply stamped D-A on one side and US on the other. This knife looks unused; some scoff marks on one side of the sheath are noted for accuracy. Full-tang construction; dual-edged blade is razor-sharp; the tip is intact.

Simple laminated wood handle scales large copper rivets and steel guard; all parts are tight. This knife is about 9-1/2" / 24.2 cm overall; the blade is about 4" / 10.2 cm. Original leather sheath is in great overall condition; the leather is still soft and supple; all stitching and rivets are intact. This type is illustrated on page 191 of. Book published in 1988 by M. Cole - a well-established expert and the author of a number of books on the subject of the US military edged weapons (see the book's page scan attached). According to Cole, this knife was attached to a large 55-person US Navy "wood and metal" life raft.

Looks like this knife was designed to quickly cut the raft's lines once the boat was in the water. At least two manufacturers of this knife are known. This specimen was made by a company abbreviated as DA - ricasso is simply stamped D-A on one side and US on the other. This knife looks unused - excellent overall condition. Some scoff marks on one side of the sheath are noted for accuracy. Full-tang construction; dual-edged blade is razor-sharp and rust-free; the tip is intact.
