Prior to 1955 VA-55 members were known as the Torpcats. In this case, worn by the squadron members when they flew both the AD-7 Skyraider and transitioned from propeller driven aircraft & into the jet age with the FJ-4B Fury. As explained to me by my late father, this fully embroidered patch was made immediately outside the main gate at Yokosuka Japan. You can go on to the A-4 Association's website and look up the VA-55 website and see this same patch featured. To authenticate this patch I attached a couple of additional images.
The first is of this same model patch seen worn on VA-55 flight jackets. This same image was cropped from a larger group photo. This same photo was taken during their 1958 (CVA-20) USS Bennington deployment to the Formosa Strait. Those subsequent images are of VA-55 Skyraiders seen during carrier qualifications in 1957 while aboard the (CVA-38) USS Shangri-La.
Please note, none of those pix are included with the sale of the squadron patch and only seen as examples. This item is in the category "Collectibles\Militaria\Korea (1950-53)\Original Period Items". The seller is "sheeley8yv5" and is located in this country: US. This item can be shipped worldwide.
