USAF P-1B Helmet 1953 The Selby Shoe Co Fighter Pilot Helmet Skull Dome

We are happy to offer this Cold War era P-1B flight helmet, which was issued by the USAF in 1953. The P-1B was designed to be worn over a thin "inner helmet" which contained the communications equipment.

The P-1B helmet was identical to the P-1A, but was created through a change in designation nomenclature. The helmet was designed to protect the aircrew during flight, and were often referred to as Skull Domes. This model is a small and made by The Selby Shoe Co. It still has the original leather and foam interior. The foam is deteriorating as expected with an item of this age.

It has been retrofitted we believe with a P-3 or P-4 visor. The communication electronics have been cut/removed. There are no personal names marked anywhere. It has the original tag from The Selby Co.
