The 22nd Crash Rescue Boat Squadron crest/patch/DUI on the front. The lid of the lighter is engraved 22nd CRBS. Underneath the crest it is engraved FEAF.
This item was acquired in a local estate in Louisville, Kentucky. FEAFM 39-1 Airmanship Far East Air Forces booklet. Booklet is named to Carl Hatfield.
Hatfield was a member of the 22. Vintage softcover booklet runs 41 pages. Has chart on USAF rank and accompanying b/w photos/drawings. The USAF activated the 22nd CRBS at Itazuke AB and Fukuoka, Japan during the Korean War. They has locations at K53 and K8 in Korea.
In late 1953-54 elements also operated out of Okinawa. Two of their boats were "85 Rebel" and 667. The squadron was comprised 400 officer and men. The unit actively rescued downed airmen/sailors and conducted covert operations behind enemy lines.
From 1950 through mid-53 the squadron was commanded by Capt Dick and Major Beene. The Squadron Commander from 53-55 was Major "Mike" Hammer. Two of the boat skippers were Sgt's Pendegast and Sgt Redeye.
