For sale here is a used and carried US Korean War Era M5A1 M1 Garand Bayonet in the extremely scarce M-5 Leather Fighting Knife Scabbard. I found these as a set and will leave them together. The bayonet is a standard M5A1 Bayonet made by Milpar Col, and is marked on the crossguard. The black plastic handles are in good condition and the button works as it should.

The metal handle fittings and crossguard show light even wear and are in good condition. The blade shows draw marks, light sharpening to both edges, wear, finish loss, and surface rust. The point is worn, but sharp. The scabbard is the featured piece and is nearly impossible to find. And, others believe that these were issued with a Utica M-5 fighting knife that was commerically available during the 80's. However, all do agree that these are nearly impossible to find. In fact, in Cole's book, he speculates that there were only 3 or 4 of these known to exist, though a few others have made their way onto forums since that book was published.

The scabbard is made of russet brown leather and has a smooth front and rough back. The scabbard features two blued steel rivets at the throat and is stitched the rest of the way around. The handle strap is also held in place by a steel rivet that has lost its blueing. The handle strap has a blacked painted brass snap that is marked Dot and shows some finish loss. The front throat of the scabbard is embossed M-5.

The scabbard has no other markings. The scabbard shows age, use, and wear, but is supple and strong. There are no provisions for belt hooks as this was made to wear on a belt. The included M5A1 bayonet fits the scabbard perfectly.

The handle strap shows some finish loss and the belt loop handle backer area shows considerable use and carry. The front of the scabbard is in good condition, but does show use, age, and wear, and does have what appears to be some faded drawing below the M-5 marking. All of the rivets are holding well, the snap functions, and the stitching is complete and strong.

This is a rare opportunity to own one of the most scarce scabbards on the market.
