SUPER RARE US Navy Korean War Bronze Star for Valor Medal Group for Inchon
Up for sale is a really fantastic Navy group to a Sailor who demonstrated acute heroism during the naval bombardment prior to the landings at Inchon, Korea. Bronze Star Medals to the Navy from WW2 are quite rare; Korean War awards are even more rare as there were very few naval engagements during the Korean War. At 07:00 on 13 September, the US Navy's Destroyer Squadron 9, headed by the USS Mansfield, steamed up Flying Fish Channel and into Inchon Harbor, where it fired upon Korean People's Army (KPA) gun emplacements on Wolmido and in Inchon. Between them, 2 British cruisers and 6 American destroyers fired almost a thousand 5-inch (127-mm) shells onto the fortifications. The attacks tipped off the KPA that a landing might be imminent, and the KPA officer in command on Wolmido assured his superiors that he would throw their enemies back into the sea. Machinist Mate Reignierd was part of a repair party who responded to the damage onboard the USS Collett. For this remarkable heroism, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. The group includes his Bronze Star Medal in the original short titled case, with the original 1/2 Navy ribbon bar (bar shows some water damage) and US Mint made lapel pin. It also includes his named and dated Good Conduct Medal with second and third award bars. Additional items in the group are his other medals, to include his American Defense, Asiatic Pacific Campaign, Occupation, China Service, National Defense, and Korea UN Medal. A gorgeous hand-embroidered set of ribbons also comes with the group. There are also many small items, to include his WW2 and postwar dog tags, ribbon bars, sweetheart jewelry, his Machinist Mate Chief patch, Chief rank insignia (he retired as a Senior Chief) and more. All of this material came out of his estate in Vallejo, California - nothing has been added or removed from the group. Unfortunately, due to COVID, the group has not been fully researched as the National Archives are closed until at least September.
It would be very interesting to research his career further! I don't list items for "show and tell" - I list to sell them. If you don't agree with my asking price, please feel free to make me a respectful and reasonable offer. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
