It is an exceptional find for any collection focusing on Korea (1950-53) or original period items. This badge is unmarked sterling. During this period, enlisted men were authorized metal breast badges rather than the previously worn cloth insignia on the arm. During World War II, it was only the submarine officers who were authorized metal breast badges.
This item is 2 3/4 inches long, weighs 0.4 ounces, is hollow back and pin back representing the diesel boats used during this era. This particular design for the submariners badge is a preferred design as there are approximately three or four different dolphin designs. This is a very lovely design badge and shows remarkably little wear & will be a very nice addition to any collection.
