This M4 knife Bayonet was designed for use on the U. The M4 knife bayonet was also used with the M2 selective-fire carbines that were developed post-war. Initially, the first M1 Carbines did not accept a bayonet. However, in June 1944, they were manufactured with a front band that included a bayonet lug. Most earlier carbines were subsequently retrofitted with the bayonet-lug front band.
The leather-grip identifies this as being from 19441945. This example is as-issued identified with a starburst staking on the pommel, it has smooth parkerizing on the blade, but it has been factory sharpening after the blade was parkerized. The scabbard is an early production M8A1, without the metal tip. It was Manufactured by the Beckwith Manufacturing Company (BM Co), Dover, NH, as an M8 scabbard for the U. It was subsequently converted to an M8A1 by the addition of the wire belt hanger on the webbing (missing on this example). Was incorporated in Little Valley, New York, in November 1926 by three cousins: Russ Case of WR Case & Sons Cutlery, Tint Champlin of Cattaraugus Cutlery, and Dean J. Construction of the factory began in 1927 while Dean recruited master cutlers. Kinfolks were formed to produce razors and fixed blade knives for both Cutleries. Dean eventually bought the majority of Kinfolks stock.Emerson Case, president of Robeson, was Dean's nephew, and prodigy. The production of Kinfolks products continued in Perry, NY until Emersons retirement in 1965. # The makers and inspection marks are. CROSS GUARD: "US M4" over "KI".

If this is not for you I also have other unusual Bayonets and Militaria Finds in my shop. Please go to my store to see the full range. This item is Vintage 40s, used, and in good condition. The leather washer grip is in good condition with no missing pieces, the leather has an aged patina, with marks consistent with use and fits tightly to the tang with no movement, the release/lock button is in working order. The blade has a flat parkerised blued finish with no stain and no pitting with some loss of the finish from sharpening and sheathing.
The remaining metal on the cross-guards and pommel has a blued finish with some wear and scuff. The scabbard has a metal locket that has some scuff marks but no dents, the fiberglass body has a damaged bottom tip (the knife point does not show or come through) and it has some wear to the green paint and fits tightly together with the bayonet.
