THIS IS AN ORIGINAL WWII - KOREAN WAR USMC CAMOUFLAGED HELMET, LINER AND FROGSKIN CAMOUFLAGED COVER. THE CAMO COVER DOES NOT HAVE ANY EGA MARKINGS.
THE HELMET - IT IS A McCORD MANUFACTURED FRONT SEAM SWIVEL BALE HELMET WITH A HEAT NUMBER OF 831B, INDICATING THAT IT WAS MADE AROUND MARCH OF 1944. I COULD NOT SEE OR FEEL ANY DENTS, AND THERE ARE NO CRACKS. THE PAINT IS ORIGINAL AND IT HAS A LOT OF CORK THAT IS STILL IN THE PAINT. THE CHIN STRAPS ARE GOOD AS WELL AS THE CHIN STRAP CONNECTORS. THIS HELMET HAS THE USUAL SIGNS OF USE - POSSIBLY IN COMBAT BUT STILL NICE SEE PICS. THE LINER - IT IS A (INTERNATIONAL MOLDED PLASTICS) LINER THAT IS MORE RARE THAN SAY A "WESTINGHOUSE", "FIRESTONE", OR "CAPAC" LINER. IT HAS IT'S ORIGINAL O. PAINT ON IT'S EXTERIOR, ALONG WITH SOME DIRT AND SCRAPES. THERE ARE NO CRACKS, HOLES, OR OTHER DAMAGE - NICE.THE WEBBING INSIDE IS KHAKI HBT AND IT IS STRONG. ALL OF THE "A" WASHERS ARE TIGHT, BUT HAVE SOME CORROSION ON THEM. THIS LINER HAS IT'S TIE STRING AND LATE WAR ADJUSTABLE NAPE STRAP, BUT DOES NOT HAVE THE SWEATBAND.
THERE IS A SMALL SPOT OF YELLOW PAINT ON THE INSIDE CROWN AREA OF THE LINER. IT WAS INTENTIONALLY PUT THERE MANY YEARS AGO BY THE MILITARY... BUT I DON'T KNOW WHAT IT STANDS FOR. THE CAMO HELMET COVER - IT IS A KOREAN WAR VARIETY WITH FOLIAGE SLITS - BUT THERE ARE NO EGA STENCILS OR STAMPS.... AND IT NEVER HAD ANY.
THAT IS UNUSUAL BECAUSE MOST CAMO COVERS FROM THE KW PERIOD HAD THE EGA STAMPED ON THE GREEN AND BROWN SIDE. THE COVER IS STRONG AND NOT ROTTED, AND THERE ARE NO FOUL ODORS OR ODOR FROM SMOKE ON IT.
IT DOES HOWEVER HAVE SOME SMALL NIPS AND HOLES ALONG WITH SOME WEAR AND STAINS FROM COMBAT. THERE IS A GREEN LINE AND RUST RESIDUE ON THE BROWN SIDE SHOWING THAT IT WAS ON A M1 HELMET FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME. THESE COVERS ARE GETTING HARDER TO COME BY IN ANY CONDITION!THIS IS A GOOD SET WITH A GOOD STEEL POT, LINER AND CAMO COVER...
