You are now admiring one of the nicest Monarch 7823 (AER) G-1 jackets that that I have had the pleasure to handle to date. This jacket remains all original with the exception of me having expertly replaced its mouton collar and while opened up replaced the elastics for both the action back panel and lining. More than likely brought home by a Vet, never worn and tucked away for the last 70 years.
It is a size 36 & let me tell you all about it! I'm now offering it for the exact same cost as my same reproduction. This is a 1951 Mil Spec model jacket and final leather flight jacket contract Monarch built for the USN.
As a one time premier jacket maker, this particular jacket's design and construction techniques has it's roots in both their M-422 that predates 1941 (pre War) to include their mid and late War AN model USN flight jackets. This particular jacket exhibits zero wear to its leather topcoat and zero wear to the lining. The knits remain all original, retains their elasticity, color and has no moth nips or signs of darning. All of which is in remarkable condition. The goat hide shows great grain and just a little stiff which is more due to a lack of wear.
The zipper alignment is superior and works flawlessly. If there is any damage it came from the machine work that originally assembled this jacket and not mention able. If there is a shortcoming it was how the leather hanger was factory attached. Which was not set up parallel with the label. On the other hand, the hanger's shortcoming is not at all uncommon with a mil spec type jacket. The jacket is labeled a size 36. If you are considering this jacket to be worn then pay attention to the measurements. All of which are as follows.
Shoulders: 18 3/4" to 19". Pits: 20" or 41 1/4" in circumference. Hem: (where the leather meets the waist knits) : 36 3/4" to 37" in circumference.
Sleeve Length: 23 1/2" to 24" LOA (includes both leather & knitted cuffs). Back Length: 24 1/2 LOA. Front Length: 22 1/2 LOA.
What I found unusual about this jacket's dimensions are its generous shoulder width. Rarely have I seen a size 36 with anything greater than 17 1/2" to 18" across.
More like that seen on a size 40/42. Please note, when I do a mouton change out I perfectly align my collars. Done so the original holes on both sides of the leather panels are perfectly aligned. What I refer to as a max effort and I did that same type of work to this jacket when I expertly replaced this jackets original molting/shedding mouton. Furthermore I use only vintage moutons that I hand picked, treated and pass my stress test. If interested please contact me for more pix. Also & if this particular Monarch G-1 jacket does not fit you I can build you one to suit. As seen here item # 403305779118.
