1943-manufactured Wool Marine Dress Green Jacket named to an R. Roy Hilton Johnston was born on 16 April, 1928 in Andalusia, Alabama.

He enlisted in the United States Navy on 8 January, 1946 at the age of 18 and served on LST 220 until 3 November, 1947. However, on 7 September, 1949 enlisted with the United States Marine Corps. Was in a signal school until being part of the 1st Replacement Draft that filled out the 1st Provisional Marine Brigade in Korea on 25 August, 1950, and was assigned as a radioman to a Mortar Company in the Fifth Marine Regiment. Johnston participated in the Battle of the Pusan Perimeter before boarding the USS Henrico on 11 September, 1950. He would stormed the beaches of Incheon on the 15 September and would fight in the Second Battle of Seoul later that month, before being a part of the United Nations Offensive into North Korea. Around this time the 5th Marine Regiment was reassigned to the 1st Marine Division. However, the unexpected Chinese entry into the war in November surprised the US X Corps in the Chosin Reservoir area, of which the 1st Marine Division was a part of. A brutal, 17 day battle in freezing weather soon followed. On 8 December, 1950, Johnston was reported as being admitted to the hospital, and it is assumed he was one of the 6,500 non-battle casualties mostly from frostbite during the battle.

He was evacuated via the USS G M Randall at the Port of Hungnam, known as the "Miracle of Christmas", to a hospital in Fukuoka, Japan. Johnston would recover from his wounds and continue his career in the Marine Corps, being stationed at various locations in both Japan and the United States throughout the 1950s and 1960s and Cryptology and Communications. However, in August of 1964, he would leave Okinawa for South Vietnam, and serve in-country during the chaotic period following the Gulf of Tonkin Incident. Johnson would then be assigned to the 4th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division from 22 August 1967 to 6 September 1968, as a Communications Chief, presumably during Operation Kingfisher and Operation Kentucky.

Johnston would retire from the Marine Corps in 1977, and pass away in 2015. Per uniform insignia, this jacket dates from circa 1958. Jacket comes blank as shown.
