The listing is for a complete Parka consIsting of Shell and inner liner. Shell This shell came from a footlocker of a quartermaster stationed in Japan in 1948-52. It is the earliest Brown pile pocket variant and has Wolverine Fur on its hood.
The pile pockets are in fantastic condition, with no damage anywhere at all - It is truly mint. Everything about this parka oozes quality, the buttons are all original , the Talon Zipper is original and totally mint. The snap connectors still have their anodsing on and the drawcords are are original and still have fresh ends.
There is no staining or repairs anywhere on it and it is fair to say this parka is the finest M48 i have in my collection. In fact in the many years i have been collecting these parkas , this is easily the very best one i have ever come across. I honestly cannot fault it in any way other than the spec label has been carefully removed from the inside pocket by the quartermaster prior to him taking it home from Japan in 1952. (thats what they did im told) Liner I picked this liner up a short while after the shell and matched it with the shell as it is in identically mint condition The liner is a matching early variant brown pile liner and fits the shell like a glove Again this liner is in equally stunning mint condition.
The green side is spotless and bears no stains at all, both spec labels are in place on the breast pocket. The woolen hood loooks brand new in honesty, no mothing of any sort or fraying or dirt or marks of any kind - it is mint museum quality.
The button holes are all mint and nice and tight, there is no fraying on the cuffs or anywhere else The brown wool pile is mint, deep and plush and again liners like this one simply do not appear any more, it is easily the very best M48 parka i have ever been privilidged enough to have owned. It does have the issue number written on the neck in black pen (pictured) so this liner was "issued" at some point, but it has certianly never seen any action and must have been put straight into storage nearly 70 years ago to be this clean and minty. Summary Here we have a perfect example of the very rare and very sought after M-1948 Fishtail parka. This is the parka that all the collectors and definitive Mods want, the daddy of fishtail parkas.
It is the very earliest brown pile variant, by far the warmest and ever parka made AFTER this model was a compromise in quality and cost. This parka is nearly 70 years old, so to find one is this incredibly mint condition is virtually unheard of. If you are reading this far you will know exactly what your looking at. These parkas were all made oversize to be worn over full battledress in the Korean War weather - So it is big. The mods all loved these parkas as they covered their smart suits on their scooters, so the baggy look was the "look" back then. I do not want to waste time with sizing issues and people whining it doesnt fit, so shown below is every possible measurement i can take , clearly displayed. Both Liner and shell are clearly labelled as "L" or Large. (my word is my bond). But i will never charge a penny more than the post office charges me and it will be boxed and packed properly, so it arrives in the mint condition it was sent to you.
Good luck - someone will be very very happy when they open the box and see this in all its glory and it pains me to sell it knowing i will probably never find another one this nice.
