Lot Of 4 WW2 Korean War Vietnam US Army African-American Black Soldier Portraits

This Lot Of 4 WW2 / Korean War / Vietnam Era US Army African-American / Black Soldier Portraits is in good condition overall but does show expected signs of age and storage. Each of the 8" X 10" photographs included in this lot are enlargements of smaller images that were reprinted in October 1988, each print is marked accordingly on it's backside.

The four frames included are all the same model, however one is missing it's protective glass. Each frame has had tape applied at some point in the past to retain the cardboard backing. The four photographs included in this lot all appear to depict the same soldier in different time periods of his service. The first photograph shows the soldier playing cards with friends.

This photograph is signed however it is difficult to read the name printed. There are lots of interesting "clues" in this image, including the clearly visible shoulder sleeve insignia patch of the US Army's 24th Division. During World War 2 and Korea, the 24th Division saw constant action in the Pacific Theater and the uniforms the men are wearing in the photograph appear to be from that era. This print is the only photograph in a frame without glass and a few light blemishes are present on the paper, possibly from being wiped down and cleaned improperly.

One portrait shows the soldier wearing what appears to be a khaki "garrison" US Army Air Corps uniform with the classic "Crusher" cap. This portrait is signed "Love, Earl" and it could be assumed that this is the soldier's first name. Another portrait shows the soldier wearing his M1 combat helmet and field uniform. There are two written inscriptions on the photograph though they are difficult to read clearly, however one of the inscriptions appears to denote the location as Korea.

The uniform this soldier is wearing would be correct for this era of service. This photograph also contains several interesting "small details, " like the possible wedding ring hanging from his dog tag chain. The final portrait shows the soldier standing in front of a Bell UH-1 "Huey" helicopter wearing what appears to be the "Type III" variant of the OG-107 Sateen utility uniform that saw heavy use in the 60s. Army branch tape patch can be seen on the shirt as well as what appear to be either Staff Sergeant or Sergeant First Class rank insignias on the collar. The soldier also wears the hot weather field cap strongly associated with Vietnam era service.

These portraits offer a rare and intimate view into the service life of one African-American soldier during a transitional period in US Military doctrine and would make a fine addition to any US Army collection. Please examine the photographs carefully for the best description of contents and condition.
