THIS IS THE ONE THAT YOU HAVE BEEN HUNTING FOR. It's a LARGE, with the original LARGE Alpaca liner, a truly rare specimen. This is the legendary Marine Corps'Chosin Parka' that is rarely found on the market.
It's rarity as a Korean War uniform item cannot be understated, and I challenge you to find another for sale online, complete with the Alpaca liner. These were issued in very limited numbers, for very few years, 75 years ago. It earned its name from its use due to its wide use during the frigid winter conditions of the battle of the Chosin Reservoir in 1950. The actual nomenclature is'Overcoat, Parka Type, Extreme Cold Coat', and these are a unique derivative of the shorter'M-47' parka issued to the army and air force.Differences from the M-47 parka include an extra eight inches of length, adjustment tabs on the sides of the waist as opposed to a belt on the M-47. The bottom of the coat can button up and back, out of the way for easier running. There are two positions available. See pictures for an example of the front snapped up and back.
The lightweight brass zipper is a known breakable, but this one is working fine. The snap in Alpaca wool liner is correct and the proper size.Any flaws are indicated in the pictures. The right cuff is worn through fairly well at the end, but the left is in better shape. There is a small repair over a tear on the rear shoulder blade area, right side as viewed from the rear.
The name'Clancy' is written on the upper back in the center, and is almost completely hidden when the hood is laid back. There is a name written alongside the zipper, see the pictures.
No other tears or serious stains. 45 1/2 shoulder to hem. A picture of this parka next to an M-47 parka is included to demonstrate differences.
This is a fantastic example of a very, very rare uniform item that is a true piece of history. More pictures are available and all serious inquiries will be responded to. I always entertain serious offers from serious buyers.
