Korean War WWII Vet Flight Souvenir Jacket with Embroidered Eagle and Mouse

Hello, and thanks for taking a look at this extraordinary jacket. This is without a doubt one of the finest "souvenir" jackets I have seen from the Korean War. This type of theater made jacket was bought "in country" as a remembrance of a soldier's service overseas and represents a type of folk art locals used to supplement their meager wartime existence.

This particular jacket's most distinguishing feature is it's large embroidered back panel, in which a mouse is seen shaking its fist at an eagle that is about to pounce on it. In large bold letters are sewn "Korea" and "The Last Great Act of Defiance". Clearly, the eagle represents the overwhelming might of the U.

The embroidery is still bright and in great shape with the exception of a small stain on the eagle's head. The jacket itself is in good shape despite obviously seeing much wear. The outer shell is a plush wine velvet with only minor rub spots and the interior is a satiny blaze orange. The main zipper is a YKK and works flawlessly. There is a smaller zipper around the collar for a hood, which is missing. The bottom and top are finished with navy blue knit ribbing. Most strange of all, the pockets are lined with old used blue jeans! Although there are no tears or rips, and the ribbing is in good condition, the interior exhibits light staining and several missing threads.

This was obviously a much-worn and cherished memento that saw actual use as opposed to simply sitting in a cedar chest. The measurements are 24" across the chest, laid flat and just under the armpits, and 33" sleeve from collar to end of cuff.

My best guess is that it is a large. This jacket would make a great centerpiece for a Korean War display or a unique and wearable jacket for the Korean War reenactor.
