Offered here is this amazing jacket from Korean War. The is an example of the 55J14 made by A. From its first contract, fiscal year 1951.
This jacket belonged to Capt. Bixler, he was a USMC pilot who flew fixed wings aircrafts and helicopters in the VMO-6 during the Korean War. VMO-6 was the first helicopter squadron in the Marine Corps to participate in combat operations. They came over with the First Marine Brigade in August 1950, and stayed in Korea throughout the end of the war. They also flew light observation aircrafts.
VMO-6 pilots provided observation and reconnaissance but also carried medevac missions. This example is in amazing condition considering it's over 70 years old. All parts are original to the jacket. The leather is very soft and the dark chocolate tone mouton fur collar looks unworn.
Original blackened Conmar zipper works perfectly and inside lining is immaculate. USN stencil under the collar looks sharp. The upper left chest depicts a leather name tag, printed CAPT J. Right chest depicts a Japanese made VMO-6 patch. The patch itself explains some of the missions they provided. The left shoulder depicts an extremely rare Japanese made bullion 1st Marine Division "finger" patch by new Itami Studio. The right shoulder depicts an extremely rare Japanese made bullion 1st Marine Air Wing patch by new Itami Studio. The back of the jacket depicts a super rare Korean War Blood Chit patch. The only one I've seen so far. If you are looking for a unique example from Korean War, this is your opportunity to get one in wearable condition! This jacket will make a great addition to any Korean War display. Needless to say that finding a 55J14 in this condition is extremely rare. Pit to pit: 21 3/4. Let me know if you have any questions.
