It looks to me as if many of the slides correspond with the log on the back lid of the box, but I havent spent enough time with the slides to know for sure. And possibly the captions on the log on the back of the lid were taken from some of the typewritten pages when the slides were originally organized. And possibly some of the pages of captions don't correspond with any of the slides--they could refer to slides or photos which have long since disappeared.
Some of the places, things, and people mentioned in these captions include. C-54, C-119, and C-124 planes.
To sum up, there are approximately 167 slides, and some of the slides that were originally in the box were removed. Also provided are captions, at least some of which correspond with some of the slides.
