South Korea's national flag. Was used by the Korean Empire and the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea before the Korean War and was adopted as the flag for the Republic of Korea in 1948, during the war's lead-up and during the conflict itself. The flag features a white background, a central red and blue "taegeuk" (yin-yang) symbol, and four black trigrams (called geongongamri) in the corners, which collectively symbolize the balance of the universe and the harmony of positive and negative cosmic forces. The flag is slightly worn and toned with age, but in pretty good shape, measuring 33" x 15 1/2".
