The wool liner easily snaps into the shell giving protection to the head and arms as well as the body. This is a vintage 1952 U. Air Force garment that is dated 1 July 1951; its patent was issued right after WWII, in 1947. It is heavy but very warm -- from before the days of light weight insulated clothing. The shell is in good shape with evidence of wear; it could use a good cleaning.
There is a small area on the right upper back that has some small holes that should be mended. The lining has only slight soil. The Air Force label in the shell reads. Overcoat, Parka Type with Pile Liner.Pat Date 221 July 1947. Not only is this a very collectible military item, it is also quite useable, and it is uncommon to find the lining with the shell.
